Continuing its skills audit program, team Kaushalam Foundation visited Bhapura village in Sanganer Tehsil of Jaipur district in Rajasthan. Bhapura village panchayat has five villages viz. Siarni, Bhapura, Prempura, Daulatpura and Chatarpura. This village has been adopted by MP Shri. Ramcharan Bohra under (Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana) SAGY, a model village development program by Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India. According to 2011 census, total population of Bhapura Gram Panchayat is 5105. Out of which 2209 people are illiterate and unemployment is one of the pressing problems in this village.
The team had a discussion with the village Sarpanch Vikas Singh to understand the skill gap of the workforce in the village. Mr. Vikas also briefed the team about the missing links in the implementation of vocational skills training programs for unemployed youth and enablers at the village level to do capacity building of various stakeholders and institutionalize this process. Upon comprehending the merit in Kaushalam Foundation’s institutional approach in creating and sustaining a holistic ecosystem for ‘Building India Through Skilling India’, Mr. Vikas was very keen on setting up a skill development center in village, where the villagers can get trained on various vocational skills.
Team also visited the nearby Government school and interacted with the school management to understand the emphasis laid on training students on vocational skills as part of academic curriculum and pedagogical approach for the same. The school principal Ms. Bharti Singh briefed the team about the sorry state of affairs when it comes to providing the trainings due to lack of institutional support. Upon knowing about customized skill training programs offered by Kaushalam Foundation, the school management also expressed interest to collaborate with Kaushalam Foundation in setting up the vocational skills training center. They also came forward to provide the infrastructural support and promised to extend other support in every possible way. Youngsters were enthusiastic knowing about a skill development center in their village. High spirits shown by villagers and Sarpanch satiated team members with great energy.
